ADRA Denmark is seeking a Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria and Sudan

Are you dedicated to assisting people in need and experienced in supporting humanitarian interventions? Do you have substantial experience in managing ECHO funded projects, and a systematic and structured approach to your daily work? Are you experienced within programme development and management? Then you may be a good match for this position.

ADRA Denmark’s humanitarian portfolio is growing, and we are therefore looking for a new colleague to manage our humanitarian programme portfolio in Syria and Sudan. S/he will be part of our programme team, which currently consists of 10 staff members. The Humanitarian Coordinator will be based in Denmark but is expected to spend a considerable amount of time supporting activities in Syria and Sudan, whenever this is again possible.

ADRA Denmark is an exciting workplace with 19 employees in Nærum. We are part of a global network present in more than 130 countries all based on Christian values. ADRA Denmark has seven close partners in Africa and the Middle East, where we are involved in both humanitarian and development programmes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support and technical assistance to the development of new humanitarian project proposals and reports for Syria and Sudan
  • Ensure that ADRA Denmark supported programme activities in Syria (Danida and ECHO) and Sudan (ECHO) are implemented and monitored according to donor requirements and ADRA Denmark’s 2020-24 Strategy
  • Contribute to strengthening the capacity of our partners within relevant fields of work
  • Provide inputs to the annual reports related to the Strategic Partnership (SPA) with Danida
  • Stay updated on ECHO and other humanitarian donor guidelines and funding opportunities and ensure partners are informed about the same
  • Strengthen some of ADRA Denmark’s strategic intervention areas (protection, cash-based assistance)
  • Support the development of ADRA Denmark’s future humanitarian strategy and intervention areas
  • Coordinate projects, approaches and capacity development of partners with ADRA Denmark’s Programme Coordinator for Sudan and Ethiopia, ensuring strengthening of work within the nexus

The successful candidate will have as many as possible of the following qualifications:

  • A relevant education, preferably at a higher degree level
  • At least five years’ relevant professional experience in humanitarian programme management
  • Extensive knowledge on donor requirements and guidelines (ECHO, Danida)
  • Specific knowledge on strategic intervention areas such as protection, cash-based programming and humanitarian-development nexus
  • Experience from working in Syria and Sudan
  • Ability to travel extensively and in insecure environments
  • Good writing skills; fluency in written and spoken English. Arabic is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Sphere and the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS)
  • Strong networking skills, intercultural and social competences
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a humanitarian team
  • Solution-oriented while following guidelines
  • Motivation to work in a faith-based civil society organisation

Employment conditions:

As per the ADRA Denmark terms. The salary level follows the basic government salary scale.

The workplace is Nærum, Denmark. The position will include extensive travel activity to Syria and Sudan (est. at least 10 weeks per year).
